KYLIEX2008

Manchester Evening News Arena

On Monday 14th July 2008, I went to the Manchester Evening News Arena to see Kylie live on the X tour.   This was the 4th time I had seen her live and it turned out to be the best.  Kylie performed for 2 hours and 20 minutes and performed 11 of the 13 tracks from the X album.

Looking through the programme before the show began, I was interested to see that one of Kylie's singers on this tour was Roxanne Wilde.  She is the younger sister of Kim Wilde and I had seen her before as the lead singer of The Dimestars who had supported Kylie at Manchester on the "On A Night Like This" Tour.  The only thing that disappointed (although only a very slight disappointment) was that a couple of live classics, "Better The Devil You Know" and "Confide In Me" were dropped from the set, but with the show being nearly 2 1/2 hours long anyway, I couldn't complain too much!

Once again, the show was split into 7 acts and the encore.  Kylie took to the stage at 8-20 and started the show with "Speakerphone", a track from X.  During the first act, Kylie performed one new track which is called "Ruffle My Feathers" which went down very well. She also performed a spectacular version of Barry Manilow's "Copacabana".

As you can see from my photos, I was seated about half way up the lower section of the seats, to the left of the stage, so I had a side on view of what was happening on the stage so most of my photos are side views!  However, it was a very good view and I certainly couldn't complain.  After an hour, Kylie sand "2 Hearts" and then went off for a 20 minute break.

The biggest reception of the evening was again for a slowed down, ballad version of "I Believe In You" as well as the reintroduced "Your Disco Needs You".  Perhaps my favourite song in the show though, was the first song in the encore, "No More Rain" which was beautifully performed.  Kylie finally left the stage at just before 11-00pm which gave me 20 minutes to catch my train.  An excellent performance and I believe that Kylie gets better each time I see her.  If you didn't get to see the shows live, get the DVD when it comes out.  You certainly won't be disappointed.  I'll certainly be buying it!
